Writer
I’ve been writing professionally for more than 25 years, from features for a small town newspaper to copywriting for a large, international advertising agency.
In between paid gigs, I’ve written short stories, personal essays, a blog, and a novel—Memoir of a Reluctant Homewrecker—for which I’m seeking representation.
Accolades
Hedgebrook writers retreat residency
Community of Writers Summer Fiction Workshop
Seattle’s Artist Trust Professional Development Program
Education
I earned a BA in English Literature and have taken additional writing classes through UCLA and Seattle’s Hugo House. I completed a year-long advanced fiction class with Peter Mountford, author of A Young Man’s Guide to Late Capitalism. And I’ve taken Unexpected Productions’ Improv 100 and 200 classes.
Associations
I’m a member of Women’s Fiction Writers Association, Hugo House, Jericho Writers, and am engaged with Hedgebrook alumnae.
Storyteller
On stages across Seattle, I’ve told stories about a haunted Ouija board, an altercation involving sausage biscuits, and that one time my mom almost shot me by accident. Plus, I’ve read everything from works in progress to cringe-worthy writing from my angsty teenage years.

Teacher
I teach Memoir Writing 101 at the Greenwood Senior Center and am amazed by the exotic places my students have traveled, the madcap adventures they’ve had, and the colorful (or sometimes off-color) lives they’ve lived.
Baker
For nearly two years, I’ve been treating neighbors with home-baked sweets at my Little Free Bakery each Friday. It’s one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. I love the transition moment when people go from skeptical: “Hmm…free cookie??” to LFB fans: “Wow! Free cookie! And it’s delicious!”
One of the most meaningful things for me is seeing the community we’re building, one treat at a time. We have so many regulars now, and folks will take time to stand around and chat with neighbors. I feel like if I needed to borrow a cup of sugar, I now know where to go!
Recovering Poet
During my teenage and young adult years, I filled journals with enough melancholy poetry to fuel a small bonfire (an imaginary one, for now…). These days, I limit myself to a weekly haiku that I print on bookmarks and hand out to Little Free Bakery customers. They come in handy for those times when I have nothing vegan, gluten- or calorie-free.
